With reference to Foreign Office letter dated 20th September 1930, in which was enclosed a copy of a letter from the Treasury sanctioning the continuation of the arrangement by which a fee of fifty guineas was payable to the Chief Justice of Hongkong for his services as an Appeal Judge at Shanghai, I am directed by Secretary Sir John Simon to inform you that he understands from the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury that the amount of this fee will, in future, be subject to an abatement of ten per cent in accordance with Treasury Circular 18/31 of 18th September last.

In these circumstances, I am to request that Sir P. Cunliffe Lister will be so good as to inform the Chief Justice of Hongkong of the revised payment due to him while present conditions continue.
